The green face of Madrid

Many people are surprised that only 60 Kms to the north of the capital, Madrid, you are surrounded by nature and can enjoy the peace and quiet of “La sierra norte de Madrid”, a part of a mountain range which runs some ? Kms across the northern part of the community of Madrid. The region is of primary importance in the area of conservation and as an indication of this, large parts of the region have been designated National Parks or National Reserves.

Quality and Comfort
The Rural Cottage, La Posada de Bustarviejo, is located in the village of Bustarviejo, 60 Kms to the north of Madrid. Built of local granite the cottage is a fine example of regional architecture.
In total there are 5 bedrooms, each one with its own individual decoration, and consisting of bathroom, two single beds, TV and DVD player. Two of the bedrooms are on the ground floor with direct access to the garden, while the three situated on the first floor each have there own balcony.

The largest National Park in the Community of Madrid, it contains some of the best conserved ecosystems in the region, as well as the highest mountain peaks. It is home to a representative list of both birds, mammals and plant of Central Spain. Extensive forests of different species of pine and oak, together with the emblem of Madrid, the strawberry tree. It has also recently been designated a Biosphere Reserve. |

The Private driver service of the Posada de Bustarviejo Rural Cottage gives you the opportunity to discover this unique part of the Community of Madrid and of course, the historic cities of Segovia, Ávila, Sigüenza and Tolado, together with such emblematic sites of Castle’s historic past, such as the huge monastery of El Escorial, Spain’s largest building, and the Royal Palace of La Granja de San Ildefonso.
We offer you the flexibility to go and do what you want, when you want. As the service is designed to suit your personal taste the groups are small, normally from 2 or 3 people, but we can also cater for groups up to a maximum of 7 people.

Cercedilla and The Valley of Fuenfría
|
Famous valley in the mountains to the North West of Madrid, popular in the past and still so today with poets and all interested in nature. A number of walks and nature trails of differing lengths throughout the valley. In total there are 6 marked walks along forest covered mountain paths, with walking times ranging from 3 hours to 5 hours.

Segovia
|
Historic town in the neighbouring province of Castilla y Léon. Huge roman aqueduct from the 1st century AD, made of local granite blocks, running through the old part of town. One of the finest examples of its kind still existing. Fairy tail like design of the impressive El Alcazar, or fortress, sat on the top of a gorge.

La Granja de San Ildefonso
|
Royal palace ordered by Felipe V. Imitating the spender of Versailles, but on a smaller scale. The surrounding estate has gardens and open woodlands with a mountain backdrop. The village, outside the palace grounds, was an important administrative centre for the Spanish empire. Today it’s a charming, lived in village, with period architecture and some magnificent trees. Forest of Valsaín close by for walks.

Mountain car tour 1
|
A car tour through some of the most picturesque mountain scenery and villages in the Guadarrama mountain range. Stopping off first in the village of Miraflores de la Sierra. After, we climb along a mountain road, through pine forests and over our first mountain pass, called Puerto de Morcuero, until we reach the village of Rascafría. Leaving Rascafría we head eastwards along a valley of Lazoya, to the small town of Lozoya. We continue are journey passing through the village of Canencia along another mountain road, which takes us over a mountain pass, the Puerto de Canencia. Finally we arrive once more in Bustarviejo.

Mountain car tour 2

Combines a car tour through mountains with a walk along the Senda Ecológica, on the road to Canencia. The walk lasts for approx. 2½ hours and is 5½ Km. in length.

Cercedilla to Los Cotos
|
After spending some time looking round Cercedilla, a narrow gage electric train climbs slowly up the mountains to Los Cotos. Easy walks, for those who want at the top.

El Escorial
|
Impressive monastery, palace and pantheon all in one, this is Spain’s largest building. Quaint village. Outside the village there is an extensive parkland associated with the monastery. Good for a stroll.
